Two Coaches with IBCA Hall of Fame credentials will represent Illinois at the annual National High School Athletic Coaches Association to be held at the Embassy Suites in Peoria June 17-21.
Lori Blade, girls varsity coach at Edwardsville and Dennis Rueter, long time boys coach at Waterloo Gibault have the chance to become NHSACA National Coach of the Year in their respective categories at a luncheon on June 21.
Blade was inducted into the IBCA Hall of Fame in 2016 and has amassed over 600 career victories at Carrollton and Edwardsville High Schools. Her Carrollton teams were 1A State Champs in 2001 and 2002. Coach Blade’s Edwardsville teams are perennial state tournament contenders with a runners-up finish in 2012 along with nine Elite Eight appearances.
Waterloo Gibault is the only place Dennis Rueter has coached in his 37 year career resulting in over 700 victories which was accomplished this past season. His 1999 squad placed 2nd in the Class 1A State Tournament and Gibault has been the champs of 14 regionals despite playing in a very tough Southern Illinois basketball region.
Good luck to both coaches!
