Greg Leib, boys coach at Belleville Althoff Catholic, and Tom Dooley, girls coach at Moweaqua Central A&M High, have been selected by the IHSA as Illinois representatives for the NFHS National Coach of the Year Award in basketball.
Leib has been the coach at Althoff since the 1997-98 season winning 344 games as the varsity coach of the Crusaders. He has an overall record of 393-206. The Crusaders were Class 3A Runners-up in 2015 and were crowned 3A State Champions in 2016.
Dooley has been at the helm of the Raiders for seven seasons and currently sports a career 178-40 record – all at A&M. His teams finished 4th in 2014, 1st in 2015, and were 2nd in 2016 – all in Class 1A.
Incidentally, both played against each other in high school – back in the early 80’s – with Greg Leib at Flora and Tom Dooley at Vandalia.
National winners were selected this past January with Richard Kortokrax of Kalida, Ohio High School and Anne Long of Spring Valley High in Columbia, South Carolina selected for the NFHS National Boys and Girls Awards respectfully.
